2008 Winter Update

Dear Spirited Drivers:

Holidays are when people are taking vacation, supposedly. Assuming you make your travel and lodging arrangements far in advanced such that you manage to get reservations, you will be greeted by long queues at airports, hotels, restaurants, ski-lifts, and restrooms. Every where you go, you are surrounded by mobs rushing from one place to another. The idea of vacation becomes a distant flying thought because it is a hard work to beat the crowds. And when you are late, it requires a tremendous amount of patient to wait around till your table is ready.

A6 on snow

This past Christmas Holiday, I gave up in making an elaborate vacation plan after spending many hours on the travel websites trying to find itineraries that fit my preferences. It seemed that everyone already beat me to those favorable dates. But, I did want to escape from my merry-go-around of daily life, at least briefly. What should I do?

Then I realized that the easiest thing to do is to just take a car and drive. Before long, I enlisted a few driving-vacation members, and families to join. Taking a few cars, we aimed for the brewing snow storm at Lake Tahoe. We headed for the mountains looking for unplowed local roads to enjoy the snow driving-vacation. When we could not continue any further because the snow was too high, we parked the cars and we snow shoed up the trail to play with our dogs.

The thin air at the high elevation is not the only thing that took our breath away; the majestic view of the Northern Sierra Nevada made us pause to soak the beauty and to appreciate how beautiful life is. And the best part of this vacation was the fact that there was no queue we had to stand. There were just plenty of fresh air and mesmerizing panoramic postcard-like sceneries. So, remember, next time you are frustrated because you could not get travel and hotel reservations for your vacation, take your car for a spin and don’t worry about the destination. Just drive and you will discover what life is all about.

Driving-Vacation.com Update

This winter, the driving-vacation.com team acted on the feedback we had received in 2007. We upgraded our look and feel and we added interactive map. The Colorado article is the first story we published on the website in this interactive map format.

We are looking forward to a great 2008 and wish you plenty of driving-vacation.
